SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Dominican women's tennis swept Chaminade 7-0 Tuesday afternoon at Castellucci Tennis Center.
Lorenza Foster-Simbulan and
Maria Gavrilov were magnificent in doubles play for the Penguins (7-5) as they made quick work of their Silversword (0-8) competitors with a 6-0 victory in No. 1 doubles.
Ana Rios and
Deepalakshmi Vanaraja won their third doubles match in a row 6-2 to clinch the team point for Dominican on the second court.
Foster-Simbulan kept things rolling into singles with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory with Vanaraja close behind her with a 6-1, 6-2 victory on the top court.
Kaylee Lopez won 6-1, 6-2 in No. 3 singles over Selena Buttery to clinch the team victory, but the Penguins were not finished there. Gavrilov topped Berylin Lau 6-1, 6-1 in No. 2 doubles with
Maya Cooper close behind her with a 6-0, 6-0 victory in No. 6 singles for Dominican. Rios claimed the final straight-set sweep of the day winning 6-3, 6-1 over Chaminade's Isabella Minaudo.
Dominican will test itself again with NCAA Division I competition as Rhode Island comes to town for a noon PDT first serve Friday at Castellucci Family Tennis Center.
