STOCKTON, Calif. – Dominican women's tennis was slowed by sickness as it faced its stiffest competition yet in a 7-0 loss to Pacific, the first of three NCAA Division I opponents it will face this season.
The Penguins (5-2) claimed the first victory of the match as
Ana Rios and
Deepalakshmi Vanaraja won No. 3 doubles 6-2 over Shukan Parikh and Eden Kanon. It was all Tigers (1-8) from there as Leyanne Hirota and Nahreen Cheam claimed No. 2 doubles 6-0 with Indiya McLeod and Rayna Sugai clinching the doubles point with a 6-2 victory on the top court.
Sickness caused Dominican to drop a few players in its singles lineup resulting in Eden Kanon claiming a win by walkover to give Pacific a 2-0 lead. Leyanne Hirota won 6-1, 6-2 to keep the Tigers rolling ahead with Sugai earning the clinch at No. 2 singles with a 6-4, 6-1 victory. Parikh, Cheam and McLeod finished off the sweep with wins for Pacific.
Dominican turns its attention to Menlo who it hosts Sunday at 11 a.m. PST at Castellucci Family Tennis Center.
