Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Dominican ends home stand with another victory

SAN RAFAEL, Calif.- Dominican women's lacrosse (2-0) squared off against the Ravens of Franklin Pierce Sunday afternoon to conclude their two-game stand. It was a rainy afternoon on the home turf for the Pengs, but that didn't stop the offense as they hung 16 on the Ravens for the second consecutive game.

Junior Alayna Cipolla would get the day started for the Pengs when she found a soft spot in the Ravens defense and connected for her second goal of the season coming off a nice dish from Morgan Newkirk. Then a minute later, fellow junior Stella Artukovich put one past the goalie that gave the Pengs the 2-1 lead. They would never look back.

Dominican would close the first half on an 8-3 run led by Newkirk and graduate transfer Ryan Bionda who would collect two goals apiece. Bionda, the Ontario native, would finish the game tied with three goals along with teammates Kyra Evans and Grace Murrell. Evans would get the third quarter underway when she received a nice pass from Artukovich and juked out a couple of Ravens defenders on her way to her third goal of the game.

Speaking of assists, the Pengs were sharing the wealth Sunday afternoon against Franklin Pierce. They would finish with 10 assists compared to two for the Ravens. Artukovich led the way with four while Newkirk was right behind her with three.

Three goalies saw time in the cage for Dominican as Kate Baell picked up another win while Katherine Chavez came down with six saves. Olivia Johnson was dominant in the draw department winning a game high nine while also adding two goals of her own.

The black and gold will be back in action Sunday, March. 1st when they take on conference foe University of Charleston at 2 p.m.
