Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Penguins earn fourth straight conference win

SAN RAFAEL, Calif.- Dominican men's basketball (15-8, 10-7) won their fourth consecutive conference game Thursday night as they closed out the Eagles of Biola University 82-78 inside the Igloo. The Penguins had five scorers over double figures with senior Darius Best leading the way posting 16 points while going 5 for 6 from the charity stripe.

The black and gold got off to a hot start against the Eagles thanks in part to junior Michael Wilson scoring the first seven points of the game. Wilson, the Sacramento native, flashed his offensive arsenal to begin the game as he collected a couple of nice driving lay-ups. He would cap off the 7-0 run knocking down a trey assisted on the play by teammate Darius Best.

Then it was Jorge Ochoa, the Los Angeles native who made his mark early in the first half by splashing home a long ball and connecting on a tough lay-up to give the Pengs a 12-2 lead. Fellow senior Nick Medeiros set up his teammates throughout the night, but especially early on as he gave the Eagles fits finding holes in their defense and dishing out assists left and right.

Biola would get back into the game by getting a favorable whistle from the refs. The Eagles were shooting free-throws as Dominican was in the bonus with eight minutes left in the first half. Tyus Parrish-Tillman knocked down some shots from the charity stripe along with a couple treys giving Biola a slim lead late in the first. Ezekiel Stallworth and Austin Johnson would halt the Eagles momentum by checking in and giving the Pengs well timed minutes off the bench. Both players would show their range from deep splashing home a long ball while playing stout defense on the other end.

Both teams came out of the lockers for the second half trading buckets. Sargent Jeffery established a presence down low for the Pengs as he collected back-to-back easy points in the paint. Johnson continued his momentum from the first half into the second carving up the Eagles defense from the mid-range while also finding space from behind the arc.

The Penguins will conclude their home stand this Saturday Feb. 14th with Westmont College at 3:30 p.m.
