SAN RAFAEL, Calif.- Dominican men's basketball (8-5, 3-4) dropped the Vulcans of Hawaii Hilo 74 to 64 Thursday night as they continued their home stand. Senior leader
Nick Medeiros led Dominican offensively posting a game high 20 points while dishing out five assists.
Hilo would start this game fast jumping out to an early six-point lead, but
Jorge Ochoa would halt the Vulcans momentum when he received a nice dish from teammate
Darius Best and pulled up with his sweet looking jumper. Medeiros would collect his first bucket of the game when he found some open space from behind the arc and splashed it in with Ochoa assisting.
Midway through the first half the Pengs found themselves down double-digits, but Dominican didn't blink. Sophomore
Luke Ortiz subbed in and instantly gave Coach Argenal solid minutes as he scored on back-to-back possessions.
Mo Toure was another sub that gave Dominican quality minutes off the bench as he knocked down a trey and collected a lay-up during the closing minutes of the first half to erase the Vulcan's lead.
In the second half, it was the Pengs who would start fast as another jumper from Ochoa would ignite a 7-0 run capped off by Medeiros hitting his second long-ball of the game. Junior
Michael Wilson heated up after halftime as he collected a bunch of tough buckets in the paint while draining a couple of treys. Ochoa and Wilson would finish the game with 13 points apiece while
Stephen Ransom rounded out the top scorers for the Pengs dropping 10 points on an efficient 4 for 6 from the field.
