SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Dominican men's soccer kept it close but could not generate enough offense in a 1-0 loss to No. 2 Stanislaus State on Saturday at Kennelly Field.
The Warriors (6-0-0) held a 14-4 advantage on shots, but the Penguins (2-4-0) were even with them with four shots on frame on the afternoon.
Anthony Stainer crossed a ball across the 18-yard box to a charging
Rolando Gonzalez who put a low shot towards the back post but Angel Ruiz-Hernandez made a diving save to his left to keep it out of the goal and jumped on the loose ball to prevent further damage in the 12th minute. The Warriors first chance came in the 16th minute as some good movement in the final third found Samuel Villanueva who placed a perfect cross to the head of Gerardo Rivera back post for a header to make it 1-0.

Ruiz-Hernandez leapt and secured a cross from Kazlauskas meant for Torbert to prevent a look at the back post.
The Warriors took their lead into the second half with a largely uneventful final 20 minutes. Adrian Yepez worked his way to the top of the box in the 54th minute and sent a low line drive at Nestor that took a dangerous spin out of his hands, but he was able to track it down and jump on the ball before another attacker from Stanislaus State could get to it.
Abraham Garcia took a shot from distance in the 75th minute as Dominican continued to search for the equalizer, but Ruiz-Hernandez made the save to keep the lead. Federico Barbieri nearly added to the Warrior lead in the 76th minute as a corner kick found him back post for the header but Nestor was there to make the save for the Penguins. Christian Brenes rattled the woodwork for Stanislaus State in the 79th minute and Emmanuel Duran's follow up shot was off target as the game entered the final 10 minutes.
Nestor continued to make saves for Dominican to keep his team within striking distance, but the offense could not solve the Warrior defense in the final third.
