Penguins hang 13 against the Sharks on senior day

SAN RAFAEL, Calif.- Dominican softball wrapped up their 2025 home schedule Saturday afternoon as they hosted the Sharks of Hawaii Pacific on senior day. Alyssa Rue, Kassidy Stetler, Taylor Eby, Hailey Butcher, Caitlyn Perales, Alicia Garcia, and Melissa Garcia were all honored before the game for what they've meant to this Penguin softball program over the years.

The Pengs bats came to play Saturday afternoon as they hung 13 on the board against the Sharks resulting in a 13-6 victory. The action started right away as Eby got the party started with a double to right center in the bottom of the first scoring teammate Payton Oas. Dominican would tally 15 total hits on the day with Eby, Tiare Gurrero, Melissa Garcia, Taylor Rodriguez, and Kelissa Lee all collecting two hits apiece.

In the bottom of the second Dominican would extend their lead scoring five runs with one big fly courtesy of junior Kate Tobola who deposited a 1-2 fastball to the fans sitting in left field scoring three. However, the Sharks wouldn't go away as Alexa Ching homered in the third plating three runs to cut the Pengs lead to 6-5.

Stetler, the senior out of Mill Valley, got the start on the bump for Dominican going four innings while striking out three batters. With the game tied at six, Rodriguez, the two-way player came on in relief to quiet the Sharks down. The Livermore native would retire the Sharks in order, and in the bottom of the inning Rodriguez ripped a single to center scoring two runs. Later in the sixth, she would open the game up with a towering homerun to left center bringing home three runs for her sixth homer of the season.

Dominican will conclude their regular season next week when they travel to Menlo April 26th for a double-header.
