LIBERTY, Mo.- Dominican women's lacrosse wrapped up their regular season with a match-up against the Cardinals of William Jewell Tuesday morning. It was all black and gold in this one as the Penguins defeated the Cardinals 13-4 lead by freshman
Kyra Evans who posted four goals of her own.
Senior
Brooke Vafi got the scoring started early for Dominican as she scored off a nice dime from teammate
Olivia Johnson two minutes into the game. Speaking of Johnson, the junior leader was all over the field for the Pengs as she was right behind Evans with three goals while dishing out a couple assists and forcing three turnovers.
The Cardinals would score midway through the first quarter making it a 2-1 game, but that was the closest they would get. Dominican followed that with a 5-0 run led by Johnson who collected two goals, and going into halftime the Pengs led 7-1.
On the defensive side of the ball the Penguins made life hard for the Cardinals as they forced 13 turnovers.
Elke Moerkeseth,
Sienna Prak-Perry, and Johnson each had three forced turnovers. Dominican also led in the ground ball department collecting 29 as a team with
Katherine Chavez,
Julianne Lane, and
Siena Fairbanks each scooping up four.
The Penguins will now have a month off to prepare for the Mountain East Conference championships where they will be the No. 3 seed starting May 1
st.
