SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Dominican men's soccer fell 3-0 to Westmont in its final match of the 2025 season Saturday at Thorrington Field.
The Penguins (5-10-1, 3-6-1 PacWest) were on their heels most of the game as the Warriors (6-9-2, 2-7-1 PacWest) finished with 23 shots and 13 on goal while holding Dominican to 11 shots with seven on frame.
Dominican had two good looks at the goal early as
Sergio Laguna maintained possession through feet before sliding a ball to his right for
Norman Tellez, but the shot lacked the pace needed to beat Aidan Strickler in the seventh minute. The Penguins remained on the attack with Laguna leading the way as he put a shot high seconds later before taking another attempt in the eighth minute that forced Strickler to dive to his left and he just got his fingertips to the ball to steer it off the post.
Anthony Stainer broke free in the 11th minute and blasted a shot that Strickler again had to put his hands up and parry away to keep his net clean. Laguna again collected a ball in space at the top of the box and sent a shot at frame with Strickler there once again to push it away from his net in the 14th minute.
Strickler and Nestor both carried a shutout into the break, but Westmont found its footing quickly in the second half. Erik Guerrero found the head of Serkan Durna near post off a corner in the 49th minute and Durna flicked it back post for the 1-0 Warrior lead.
Eric Reis tried to tie the game in the 57th minute as he tried to beat Strickler inside the left post with a curling shot, but Strikler pushed it past the post and out of harm. Once again it was a corner in the 64th minute that gave Westmont a prime opportunity as Marco Valdez's header attempt was deflected away from the backline but to the foot of Kristian Johnson who slotted home the rebound for the 2-0 lead. Jackson Obleda added a third for the Warriors in the 87th minute as the Penguins could not find its first half magic down the stretch.
