Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Penguins play host to the Warriors

SAN RAFAEL, Calif.- Dominican women's volleyball wrapped up their four-game home stand hosting the Warriors of Jessup University Wednesday night. This match was also faculty/staff appreciation day as the team wanted to thank the great Dominican staff for all they do.

The Warriors came out fast in this one scoring the first four points of the match, but the Penguins would halt their momentum when sophomore Reese Bozak skied high for an emphatic slam. Dominican would then answer with two straight points courtesy of Avery Schneider and and Cierra Ray.

Midway through the first set Jessup jumped out to a seven-point lead, but the Pengs wouldn't back down. Junior Braenwynne Matthews came off the bench and sparked Dominican with two consecutive kills while their defense stiffened up with Ashlyn Daugherty bringing down a big block. Alexis Schwartz, the freshman standout, continued the Pengs momentum late in the set when she found soft spots in the Warriors defense collecting a couple of kills.

In the second set it was Dominican who jumped out to a fast start collecting the first three points of the set. All three of those points were forced by freshman Kaylee Noa whose serves made it hard to figure out. Sophomore Chloe Cruz was all over the court tonight but especially in the second finding teammates left and right for assists.

Schwartz finished this match leading the Pengs on both sides of the ball with a team high 11 kills while also swatting down three blocks. Speaking of Cruz, she dished out a team leading 14 assists while also collecting a couple of aces.

Dominican will be back in action Oct. 11th when they travel to Menlo at 1 p.m.
