SAN RAFAEL, Calif- Dominican men's soccer welcomed in Point Loma Nazarene Saturday afternoon to open conference play. This game was physical throughout the entire match, but the Sea Lions were able to prevail winning 3-1.
Point Loma put some pressure on the Penguins defense early on and were able to cause some miscommunication on the back end as the Sea Lions scored an own goal 10 minutes in. Dominican regrouped quickly as senior
Chris Mendez-Lemus answered the Sea Lions goal calling his own number as he ripped one from 25 yards out and found the back of the net. The Salinas native along with fellow senior
Lex Bernier led the team in shots going for three each.
The score would stay knotted up at one for the remainder of the first half. Point Loma had several chances to take the lead, but graduate student goalkeeper
Alejandro Reyes held strong with crucial saves. Reyes tallied seven goals on the day.
Things got chippy in the second half with both teams trying to break the tie. The Sea Lions were able to find the back of the net twice after halftime. In the 85
th minute, both players from each side were given a red card which could impact each team's next match.
