SAN RAFAEL, Calif.- Dominican softball wrapped up their home stand with the Golden Eagles of Concordia University Irvine Sunday afternoon. The Penguins dropped the first game of the double-header 3-0, and lost a back-and-forth game 8-6 to wrap up the series against CUI.
Senior
Alyssa Rue had a big second game as she went 3 for 4 from the plate with a double and a solo shot in the 5
th inning.
Game One
Shelby Keltner went the distance for the Penguins in this one going a solid seven innings punching out six Golden Eagles while not allowing a walk. Dominican just couldn't muster up any offense as Katlin Entrup held them to one hit. However, the Penguins offense would wake up for game two.
Game Two
The Penguins found themselves in a hole early down 5-0 in the third inning. Nonetheless, this team doesn't get rattled they just keeping grinding. Dominican was able to put up five runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth thanks to two huge singles from
Hayley Gano and
Morgan Saucedo.
Then in the fifth inning trailing by a run, the Penguins looked to their senior leader for an answer. Rue stepped up to the call as she took Courtney Kolemans deep to left field to knot up the score at six. The Golden Eagles ended up getting two runs in the sixth to secure the victory. Dominican's offense may have been stagnant in game one, but they awoke in game two for six runs on 11 hits.
The Penguins kick-off their Hawaii road trip March 1
st at Hilo.
