SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Dominican women's basketball lost 59 to 58 to the Westmont Warriors Saturday afternoon despite outscoring them 32 to 26 in the paint. Senior
Olga Faasolo turned in a season high 17 points on an efficient 7 for 10 from the field.
Early on, the Penguins looked to establish their dominance inside setting up Faasolo and sophomore
Keyonee Neal. Neal was behind Faasolo in scoring posting 14 points while swiping a game-high five steals.
The Warriors couldn't stop the Penguins in the paint, but they did have a vast advantage on the boards. Westmont grabbed 49 rebounds on the day which was 10 more than the Penguins. Dominican allowed too many offensive rebounds which resulted in easy buckets for the Warriors.
In the second half,
Alaiyah San Juan started to heat up as she finished the game with 10 points and one block. Fellow junior
Mikayla Amoroso posted a solid six points to go along with three steals.
Westmont kept chipping away and found themselves hitting their shots when it counted the most down the stretch. After a couple of missed lay-ups from the Penguins in the final seconds, Faasolo was called for a questionable foul which resulted in Westmont hitting two free throws to take the late lead.
The Penguins will look to bounce back as they travel to Fresno Pacific Feb.15
