SAN RAFAEL, Calif.- Dominican women's basketball welcomed in the Sea Lions of Point Loma Nazarene University Thursday night to open conference play. The Penguins fought hard until the final buzzer, but the Sea Lions had too much offense in this one as they won 77 to 64.
Sophomore
Adia Walker led Dominican in the scoring department going for 16 points on an efficient 6 for 8 from the field. Seniors
Alaiyah San Juan and
Alex Salise were right behind Walker with 13 points each.
Point Loma started fast from the start and controlled the pace of play throughout the game with an emphasis of scoring down low. The Sea Lions scored 42 points in the paint which helped them jump out to a double-digit lead for most of the game.
Dominican showed toughness in the second half being down big they could've easily lost their fight, but they didn't. In the fourth quarter, the Pengs defense made it tough on the Sea Lions offense holding them to only nine points. Dominican was swarming to the ball and as a result
Andraya Perez and San Juan collected three steals each. Perez also showed her versatility in the second half posting nine points from a mix of nice driving layups and hitting one from long range.
The Penguins will be back in action this Saturday Dec. 7
th when they host the reigning PacWest champions Azusa Pacific at 1 p.m.
