SAN BERNADINO, Calif. – Dominican women's basketball built an early lead it never relinquished in a 74-58 victory over Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday afternoon at Coussoulis Arena.
Taylor Linzie led the Penguins (4-5) with 10 points, seven rebounds, five steals and three assists. Abigail cooper added a game-high 16 points, while
Mikayla Amoroso added 13 points and three steals. Lauryn Morris led the Coyotes (1-3) with a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds. Dominican made the most of its opportunities shooting 46.6% from the field and 85.7% from the free-throw line to counter CSUSB's 21-11 advantage on the offensive glass.

Isobel Crosswhite sparked a run with a short jumper and Abigail Cooper knocked down her first 3-point attempt from the right wing as they built a 13-4 lead with 3:34 remaining. Cooper connected on a floating jumper and
Taylor Linzie scored a pair from the charity stripe to push the lead to double digits at 17-6 which Dominican held heading to the second quarter.
The teams traded buckets for much of the second period until
Kaylyn Buchanon-Lamb connected on a layup before a turnover eventually led to a perfect out of bounds play that saw Cooper pop open under the hoop to push the lead to 30-15 with four minutes left in the half. The Coyotes found some success inside reeling off 6-points to cut the lead to single digits on a slashing layup from Isabel Arango, but Buchanon-Lamb sped down the court for a layup to push the lead back to 32-21. The teams traded points over the final minutes of the half and
Alex Salise finished through contact to send Dominican into the locker room leading 39-27.
CSUSB cut its deficit to seven as Lauren Morris capped off a brilliant display on the offensive boards with a layup with 6:57 left in the third. The Penguins kept it there for several minutes until Salise slashed into the paint for two to push the lead back to 11 and a make from the free-throw line by Cooper extended the lead back to 12 with four minutes left in the quarter.
Dominican carried a 52-42 lead into the fourth quarter and expanded it early as San Juan cut down the lane for a pair of layups and Salise knocked down a 3-pointer to make it 61-44 at the final media timeout of the game. Amoroso converted a putback layup pushed the lead to 19 out of the short break and she added a pair of makes from the charity stripe to push the lead to 65-45 with 3:49 remaining in the game. It was all the room the Penguins needed as they cruised to the victory.
Dominican will enjoy some rest over Thanksgiving before returning home to host UC Merced on Saturday at 1 p.m. PDT.
