SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Dominican women's tennis fell 7-0 Sunday to Fresno Pacific at Castellucci Family Tennis Center.
The Sunbirds (8-5) got off to a strong start as Nayuma Subba and Elise Leik took No. 2 doubles 6-1. Lea Falentin and Audrey Ouellet held off the Penguins' (7-8)
Carolina Guerrero and
Hannah Lam-Truong 6-4 to take the doubles point for FPU.
Dominican continued to shuffle its normal lineup in singles play and the Sunbirds took advantage as Falentin topped Guerrero in No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-3.
Astrid Craig sustained a minor injury and was unable to continue in No. 3 singles which gave FPU the 3-0 lead in the match. Leik clinched the team victory with a 6-1, 6-1 victory on the fourth court.
Lam-Truong and
Sophia Portillos had the best outings for the Penguins as they played their Sunbird competitors close in No. 5 and 6 singles respectively. Unfortunately neither was able to come away with the victory as Lam-Truong fell 6-3, 7-5 to Daimy Paula and Portillos dropped a 6-4, 7-5 decision to Malia Mitchell.
Dominican will return to the court Tuesday to take on Stanislaus State at 2 p.m. at the Stan State Tennis Courts.
