FULLERTON, Calif. – Dominican women's tennis extended its win streak to three as it won 7-0 over Hope International University on Thursday afternoon at Fullerton Tennis Center.
Audrey Rafols and
Gina Dudley claimed their fifth win in a row at No. 1 doubles for the Penguins (4-3) defeating Shahrazad Barakat and Madison Giese 6-1.
Zoe Coggins and
Carolina Guerrero then sealed the doubles point for Dominican as they defeated the Royals' (2-5) Dejana Markovic and Maxime Mendes 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.
Haley Garcia started off the Penguins strong in singles play with the 6-1, 6-1 victory over Barakat. No. 26 Rafols then moved Dominican within a point of clinching the victory as she dispatched Tiffany Beukes 6-3, 6-1. Dudley secured the winning point at No. 2 singles with the 6-4, 6-0 vicotry over Ellie Black of HIU.
The Penguins kept things rolling in singles with
Hannah Lam-Truong claiming the 6-1, 6-3 victory in No. 5 singles, while Coggins overcame a difficult second set to win 6-0, 4-6, 10-4 in No. 3 singles.
Sophia Portillos then capped off the sweep with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Fiorella Dreux at No. 6 singles.
Dominican will conclude its first significant road trip of the season Saturday as it squares off with Concordia University Irvine at 10 a.m. PST at the CUI Tennis Courts.
