SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Dominican women's tennis opened its season with a commanding 7-0 sweep of William Jessup on Friday afternoon at Castellucci Family Tennis Center.
Gina Dudley and
Zoe Coggins started things off on a strong note for the Penguins as they topped the Warrior's Isabelle Rietz and Danielle Akabane 6-0 to take the early lead. Jessica Holbea and Nicollet Alexander leveled the doubles point as they won 6-3 on the top court, but Carlina Guerrero and
Hannah Lam-Truong took the 6-3 victory in No. 3 doubles moments later to claim the double point for Dominican.
Lam-Truong continued her strong play in singles as she claimed the clean 6-0, 6-0 sweep on court six while Coggins added a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Stephani Alsman.
Astrid Craig claimed the clinching point in No. 4 singles moments later with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Rietz.
With the match in hand Guerrero knocked off her Warrior opponent 6-2, 6-0 while Dudley added a 6-3, 6-3 victory in No. 2 singles.
Audrey Rafols finished off the sweep for Dominican as she overcame an early deficit for the 4-6, 6-2, 10-3 victory in No. 1 singles.
The Penguins will return to action Saturday, February 18 as it hosts Academy of Art at 11 a.m.
