HAYWARD, Calif. – Dominican men's basketball earned their first win off the season Friday night defeating Cal State East Bay 67-62.
Senior
Dale Currie once again led the way for the Penguins posting 18 points on the night. Currie was able to break down the Pioneers defense time and time again as he went 6 for 9 from the charity stripe.
Coming off arguably the dunk of the year against Stanislaus State, senior
Marcus McCutchen was right behind Currie dropping 17 points in this one. The Merced native was efficient from the field while also grabbing 6 rebounds.
After playing a back-and-forth game on Tuesday night, the Penguins found themselves in familiar territory. This game had 10 lead changes, but big plays down the stretch from Dominican secured the victory.
With the game being close in the final two minutes of play, hitting free throws became a priority.
Carter Plousha went 9 for 10 from the free throw line and teammate
Brendon Johnson was a perfect 8 for 8.
The Penguins are right back at it tomorrow night when they take on CSUMB at 5 p.m.
