Dominican women's basketball traveled up the 101 freeway to Rohnert Park to open the season against Chico State in the PacWest/CCAA challenge. Junior transfer
Andraya Perez led the Penguins in this one going for 19 points in the season opener.
The Stockton native wasted no time showing her teammates what she can do on the floor. Perez was giving the Wildcats fits all night especially from behind the arc where she shot 50% while also going 7 for 11 from the field.
Sophomore
Keyonee Neal was second on the team in scoring posting 17 points while also knocking down two 3-pointers. Earlier this week, Neal was voted to the Pre-Season All-PacWest team and tonight she showed why. She was one rebound shy of collecting a double-double, and was a constant force in the paint causing the Wildcat defense to send her to the free-throw line 10 times.
The game was a back and forth battle all night with the Penguins only up by two heading into the last quarter. Freshman
Adia Walker, who drew her first collegiate start made some big plays down the line. The Nevada native ended the game with a double-double and four steals.
The Penguins bench provided to be the x-factor of the game as they went for 30 points. The second unit was led by junior
Alaiyah San Juan who collected 15 points in 28 minutes.
Dominican is back at it tomorrow as they square off against Sonoma State at 4 p.m.
