Honolulu, Hawaii -- Dominican University of California (9-7, 8-2) used lockdown defense to add a statement win on the season while holding Hawaii Pacific University (7-7, 5-2) to just 33 points, 38.5 less than its season average of 71.5 pointer per game this season.
In addition to only allowing HPU to score 46% of its season average, the Penguins gave up just 11 points to the nation's scoring leader, Abby Spurgin, who has been averaging 25.1 points per game this season. Redshirt senior

Olga Faasolo earned 15 points on the afternoon while Cedeno added eight rebounds, three assists, two blocks and six steals to continue her impressive streak of play that shows up under every meaningful statistical category. Junior
Jenna Duley contributed nine points, three rebounds and a pair of steals while freshman
Keyonee Neal notched eight points and 10 rebounds.
Cedeno lived out the meaning of charity shot as an early advantage was awarded to Dominican for an administrative technical foul before tip-off that gave Dominican a 1-0 advantage without any time being erased from the clock. Back-to-back Neal buckets extended the Penguins' early lead to 5-0 before HPU found the scoreboard from deep, a bucket that was short-lived as Cedeno answered with a layup just 16 seconds later. The Sharks then drained another three to cut the deficit to a single point before Dominican took control on both sides of the ball, flying out to an 8-0 lead to end the frame courtesy of a Duley 3-pointer and layup, a Neal midrange jumper and a loan successful
Alaiyah San Juan foul shot. HPU went 6:01 without finding the twine a single time while Dominican's Duley, Cedeno and San Juan (two) all recorded steals to quickly end any threats of offense on four the the Sharks' final possessions.
Neal earned the quarter's first bucket preceding a Sharks basket that finally broke the scoreless drought for the home side with nearly 10 minutes elapsing between Sharks' buckets. The Penguins found themselves in a mini scoring slump that was snapped by an Amoroso layup and a San Juan 3-pointer to put Dominican up 24-13 near the end of the half. The Sharks converted on a long ball of their own seconds later but would be unable to find the bucket again in the second quarter as a late Faasolo tally gave Dominican a 26-16 advantage heading into the locker rooms.
Faasolo earned a pair of foul shots after corralling two of her own offensive rebounds midway through the third quarter, draining both to put Dominican up 20 with the score reading 41-21 as the team came soaring out of the locker room. Junior
Mikayla Amoroso tallied a steal on an inbound moments later after a San Juan foul brought the ball a quarter way up the court with the steal eventually leading to a pair of converted Cedeno free throws. Another Cedeno steal halted another HPU possession leaving the Sharks' offense without any sort of answers before a Cedeno offensive rebound kept the Sharks, again, on their own defensive side of the floor as they later watched her continued success from the charity stripe on the same possession. By quarter's end Dominican trotted off the court with an extended 44-23 lead allowing just seven third quarter points.
Sophomore
Alex Salise drained a deep ball as time expired on the shot clock following a Cedeno layup in similar fashion to put Dominican back up 20 midway through the final frame. Faasolo hit her sweet spot near the top of the key on the following possession to force an HPU timeout with 5:19 remaining on the clock. Cedeno buried Dominican's next five points, topping off her streak of scores with a successful and-1 after a hard foul on a converted layup. Duley Euro Stepped her way to a layup on the ensuing possession as Dominican's offense added insult to injury in the waning stages of the matchup while the defense only allowed three points in the final 4:18 of the game before waltzing off the HPU hardwood to the tune of a 60-33 statement win.
Dominican now looks ahead to Friday when it caps off its three game Hawaii road swing against Chaminade University.
