San Rafael, CALIF. – Dominican University of California (2-0-0) downed Cal State East Bay (1-2-0) by a score of 4-2 behind a mammoth 15 shots that found the target.
 
Senior goalkeeper Alejandro Reyes was the first keeper to be tested on the afternoon with a soft shot that was handled easily by the veteran keeper. Senior Christopher Barrios tallied Dominican's first shot of the game less than a minute later, but the Pioneers' goalie was equal to the task.
 
A free kick from just a hair outside the top left corner of the box was awarded to Dominican in the 31^st minute as the offense began to find its groove. Senior Brian Sanchez stepped in to take the free kick, sending the ball towards the opposite side of the box, eventually finding the foot of senior Louie Galdamez after Cole Porter headed it his direction. Galdamez opened the scoring after directing the boal past the outstretched arms of the Pioneers' keeper, netting his third goal as a Penguin as the standout defender staked his claim on both sides of the pitch.
 
Neither team would be able to add a goal to its side of the scoreboard before the end of the half, but the offense continued to roll for Dominican as it forced Pioneers' keeper Zavier Hajdukovich to make three saves over a five-minute span before the chime of halftime horn sounded.
 
The Penguins extended their lead just 115 seconds into the second half when junior Aboubacar Cisse received an outstanding through ball before eventually pacing his way unscathed inside the box and sending the ball into the upper left-90 of the frame. Jesus Duran and graduate student Dominic Galletti picked up assists on the play as Dominican doubled down to lead 2-0.
 
A third Dominican score came in the 60^th minute after Galletti utterly outmuscled his man to gain possession inside the box, also sending the ball near the left upper-90 as the graduate student showcased his talent and toughness to extend his teams' lead, with both Brandon Selway and Sanchez picking up points on the play. An immediate response was given by East Bay as it netted a pair of goals over the ensuing 15 minutes, cutting the lead to 3-2 with less than 15 minutes left on the clock.
 
Diego Grande found himself homefree at the center of the box after senior Cole Porter and Sanchez completed their 3-man tic-tac-toe play with Grande having enough time and space to slide the ball into the lower right-90 of the frame to again double the Dominican advantage. This score held for the remainer of the game as the Penguins waltzed off the field to the ever-sweet melody of a 4-2 victory in front of its home crowd.
 
Dominican saw major advantages in every positive statistical category, earning a 24-7 total shot differential with a difference of 15 shots to four finding the target, adding seven corner kicks.
