Alicia Garcia swept the weekly PacWest awards by winning PacWest pitcher of the week and PacWest Player of the Week, respectively, the conference announced Monday.
"They're receiving the award because they are some of the most competitive people you could ever meet," head coach Julianna Santos said. "They want to be the best, they want to be the person that's up to bat or that's pitching when there's pressure. I'm super happy for them both."
Keltner's incredible week included a 10-inning shutout win against Hawaii Hilo, followed by a one-run, five inning performance that also resulted in a win in game two of the same-day doubleheader. Keltner then etched her name in the Dominican record books by recording 13 strikeouts against the Academy of Art, setting her up for a seven-inning shutout against the conference rivals. Keltner allowed just two runs over 29.2 innings of work, striking out 27 while only walking three en route to a 3-1 week. This is the second time in three weeks that Keltner has earned the conference pitcher of the week award.
"I feel very proud to be receiving this award," Keltner said. "I opened my mind up a lot this year, especially to new such as trying different spins and stuff like that to manipulate the pitches more. It's working more right now than it has before."
Garcia posted a remarkable stat line during the doubleheader against the Urban Knights, going 6 for 7 with seven RBIs on the day. Garcia notched a pair of homeruns in the second game of the matchup, with the latter dinger coming in walk-off fashion as she capped off her five RBI game with a deep shot to centerfield that run-ruled the Academy of Art.
"It's nice to come up big for our pitchers who have been working really hard and playing well. I made a few adjustments from the Hawaii trip, trying to not think as much while making sure I see the ball and hit the ball," Garcia said. "I'm excited for myself, but for the team as well."
