SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Dominican women's tennis protected its home court in dominating fashion dropping only one game in a 7-0 sweep of Mills College on Friday afternoon at Castellucci Family Tennis Center.
"Today's match was a great convincing win for us," head coach
Cristina Visico Hassanali said. "It was exciting to see Antoinette [Schreiber] and Madison [Giannetto] win their singles matches at about the same time to seal the overall team win for us. To drop only one game the entire match is an impressive team accomplishment and gives us a little more confidence as we look to Sunday's match with Stanislaus."
Julia Rydel and
Zoe Coggins got the nod for the top doubles pairing of the day and quickly dispatched the Cyclones' Jenny Cheng and Sam Onate 6-0 in No. 1 singles.
Haley Garcia paired with
Antoinette Schreiber for the first time of the season and they delivered another 6-0 victory over their Mills counterparts to take the 1-0 lead in the match.
Coggins kept things rolling in singles play as she delivered a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Grace Hirschfeld with Garcia close behind her with a 6-0, 6-0 victory of her own over Onate in No. 2 singles.
Madison Giannetto captured her first singles victory of the season 6-0, 6-0 in No. 5 singles to clinch the match with the fourth team point. Schreiber added a 6-0, 6-0 victory in No. 4 singles with Rydel claiming the top court 6-0, 6-1 to complete the sweep.
Dominican will return to the court Sunday as it hosts Stanislaus State at noon PST at Castellucci Family Tennis Center.
