Garrett Siebels got the Penguins on the board with a 3-pointer off a dish from Volz and the teams began to trade points until Tobin Karlberg knocked down five points unanswered to spark an 8-0 run that pushed the PLNU lead to 16 with 12:56 left in the half.
Volz finally gave Dominican some positive momentum as he knocked down a midrange jumper before taking a defensive rebound coast-to-coast to cap off a 6-0 run that cut the deficit to 21-11 two minutes later. Dominican was unable to get any closer as the deep range shots continued to fall for the Sea Lions and a layup from Anderson extended the lead to 20 with 1:40 left in the half and they entered the locker room leading 46-23.
Volz continued to power the Penguins as he quickly scored the first four points of the second half to get back within 20 and Dominican kept it there for the next five minutes. Karlberg sparked an 8-0 run with an old fashioned 3-point play as PLNU extended the lead to 59-33 with 11 minutes left in regulation and Dominican was unable to stop the hot-shooting Sea Lions down the stretch as they dropped their first game of PacWest play.
Dominican will return home to take on Fresno Pacific on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at the Conlan Recreation Center.
