Irvine, CALIF. -- Dominican University of California women's soccer freshman keeper Angeline Hert earned PacWest Defender of the Week honors, the conference announced Monday.Â
"Ang has been a rock for us this season," head coach Kelly Coffey said. "Even though she is a freshman, she has the mentality of a veteran player. She's so humble and always looking for how to improve and get better. This is a well-deserved award for her this week, but I'm sure she would be the first to credit the defense with in front of her for the two shutouts, also."
Hert backstopped Dominican to an undefeated week, earning a tie against rival Holy Names University before reigning victorious on the road against Fresno Pacific University. The native of La Verna, California, pocketed a pair of clean sheets in the victory, earning nine combined saves while playing in every minutes over the span of the two matches. Hert faced 17 shots in the victory of the Sunbirds on Saturday, setting a new season-high for a single game. With the two clean sheets last week, Hert now boasts a total of six on the season while not allowing a single goal in any of her last four outings.Â
"We played insane under the lights at Fresno," Hert said. "I'm so proud of the girls and how we battled so hard to prove that we can compete. This game took our entire team, and we won together. I'm so excited for our upcoming games."
