San Francisco, CALIF. – Dominican University of California (4-6-4, 1-4-1) took down rival Academy of Art (1-13-0, 0-6-0) in dominating fashion to earn a victory in the first leg of the Bay Area Classico Cup.
Senior
Alison McNeal got the offensive going in just the 3
rd minute of the contest when she recorded her first and second shot of the game, following up with a third strike in the 7
th minute, none of which were able to find the back of the net. Freshman keeper
Angelina Hert made her first and only save of the afternoon in the 17
th minute when she stopped a ball that was directed towards the bottom right of the frame, later electing to take the afternoon off as the Urban Knights couldn't generate anymore offense that would result in a test for Hert.

Sofia Odron in the 28
th minute, but Urban Knights' keeper Alicia Calderon turned it aside. Calderon's next assignment came in the 42
nd minute when senior
Ayla Harris sent a shot on frame, but the task was again met with a save the Art U keeper kept the game even as the squads separated for halftime tied 0-0.
When it rains it pours, substantiated by a second half onslaught by the Dominican attack. Junior
Alejandra Melendez tallied the first score of the contest when she collected a bouncing ball off a deflection and sent a strike into the bottom left of the goal. Bills sent a shot narrowly wide in the 73rd minute before Dominican doubled its advantage one minute later after senior
Gabrielle Wampler juked into the box and sent a scorching strike towards the left post to earn her second goal of the season.
Senior
Alana Berens netted the third and final goal of the contest in the 87
th minute when junior
Danielle Gonzalez sent a pass into the center of the box and onto the foot of Berens. Berens quickly collected herself and directed the ball towards the right goal post and into the back of the net, earning her first goal of the season as she and her team left the field moments later with a 3-0 victory.
Dominican's offense utterly owned the scoresheet, tallying an astonishing 27 shots with 10 finding the target as McNeal sent six shots towards the goal on her own. The Penguins also added 10 corners while only allowing seven shots to be taken.
With this win and the men's win, Dominican earned six of a possible six points to open the Bay Area Classico Cup, earning top spot on the leader board.
