Penguins complete sweep of Hawaiian road trip

HONOLULU – Dominican men's soccer finished off a perfect road trip to Hawai'i as it defeated Chaminade 1-0 Saturday afternoon at Saint Louis Field.

The Penguins (7-3, 3-0 PacWest) continued its strong statistical road trip as it held a 13-5 advantage in shots with a 7-1 advantage in shots on goal as it also remained atop the PacWest standings. Dominic Galletti scored his third goal of the season while Alejandro Reyes enjoyed little pressure on his way to his third shutout.

Dominican dominated possession for nearly the entire match limiting Chaminade to a single shot on goal in the 61st minute when Daniel Villalva sent a ball towards the lower-right corner, but Alejandro Reyes made the save. The Penguins returned to its attacking third as Nick Van der Waart van Gulik sent a cross into the box from the right sideline to find Galletti at the far post and he put the ball into the upper left netting for the 1-0 lead in the 71st minute.

The Penguins never let up on the pressure and did not allow another shot on goal by Chaminade for the remainder of the game to preserve the shutout.

Dominican dominated possession from the opening whistle with Eddie Silverbush earning the honor with the first shot on frame in the 21st minute but Brandon Yasue was there to make the save for the Silverswords. Silverbush continued to stay dialed in testing Yasue again in the 25th minute, but Yasue made the save. Yasue made another save in the 31st minute on a Lex Bernier shot as the pressure kept him busy. Chaminade's first shot of the game came in the 41st minute as Kevin Yulkowski sent a ball towards the net but it was high over its mark and the period came to an end in a 0-0 tie.

The Penguins will return home to take on Azusa Pacific on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. PDT at Kennelly Field.
