Penguins fall to Broncos

SANTA CLARA, Callif. – Domincian women's tennis fell 7-0 Saturday afternoon to NCAA Division I opponent Santa Clara at Degheri Tennis Center.

The high-point of the match for the Penguins (1-2) came in No. 1 singles were senior transfer Amber Del Rosario gave JennaMarie Gordon all she could handle. Gordon was able to edge out Del Rosario 6-4 in the first set with the players trading games to a 6-6 tie in the second set to go to a tiebreaker. Gordon was able to once again gain the slight advantage in the tiebreaker to take the 7-6 (5) victory.
 
The Broncos (1-1) controlled the match early as Gordon and Giulia Hayer claimed a 6-0 victory in No. 2 doubles with Jamie Schroer and Lindsey Pesqueira winning 6-1 on court three to claim the doubles point. Hayer kept the momentum on SCU's side in singles as she opened with a 6-0, 6-0 victory with Finley Kalinic claiming a 6-1, 6-0 win on court two to move a match away from the clinch. Pesqueira recorded the clinching point with the 6-2, 6-0 victory over in No. 5 singles.

The Penguins will look to regroup as they return to Division II competition Saturday when they host Fresno Pacific at 10 a.m. at Castellucci Family Tennis Center.
