Parker pushes Penguins past Pioneers

ANGWIN, Calif. – Sophomore guard Adam Parker was proven unstoppable for Dominican men's basketball leading the team to an outstanding 78-48 victory over the Pacific Union Pioneers for the second night in a row this time at Pacific Auditorium.

Parker finished with a career-high 31 points to go with eight rebounds, and six assists for the Penguins (3-4). Graduate center Justin Brown added 11 points, with graduate guard Zamaria Odom grabbing 14 boards.

Parker was on fire to start the game, carrying Dominican to a 7-0 lead knocking down a pair of 3-pointers. Parker then dished an assist to Brown under the hoop before resuming his hot shooting with his third make from beyond the arc, causing the Pioneers to call an early time out as the Penguins led 17-3 under five minutes into the game.

Coming out of the time out, PUC's Chris Jones had a layup in the paint in hopes of bringing his team out of their dry scoring spell. After an inbound pass from freshman point guard Jake Blazona, Brown played some bully ball and scored off of a nice move to the basket. Continuing to keep the momentum on the offensive end, Parker readjusted off of a feed from Blazona and scored to extend the Penguins' lead to 23-6 with 12 minutes to go in the first half.

The Pioneers picked up their defensive pressure, causing Dominican to turn the ball over and Jordan Lopez capped a run with a deep three that cut Dominican's lead to nine points with eight minutes to go in the first half. Blazona was fouled and sent to the line after the run and knocked down both of his free throws to get the Penguins' offensive stride back. Parker then followed Blazona to the charity stripe after a strong drive to the hoop, making both of his free throws, and in the following offensive possession, sent out a pass to Blazona in the corner for three more as the lead moved back to 15.

Sophomore guard Connor McLeann provided a spark off the bench in the final minute as he received a pass from Blazona and knocked down a 3-pointer from the elbow making the score 40-25 at the half. Adam Parker finished the half with 23 points for the Penguins, tying his previous career high set Saturday against Humboldt State.

Parker continued on his hot streak making another shot from deep to start the second half. The Pioneers then responded with another Lopez 4-ball before the Penguins shut them down for two minutes. Parker continued to do his thing on the offensive end with a nice pass down low to Brown who laid it in gently off the glass. Junior guard Chase Anderson came off the bench and added to the Dominican lead with a nice cut to the basket off another pass from Parker making the score 58-26 with 12:45 left on the clock.

With under 10 minutes to go, Odom got his 3-point shot to flow, knocking down one from deep to push Dominican's lead over 20 at 63-40. After the Penguins forced a Pioneer turnover, Brown dished it to Anderson on a cut to the rim allowing for another two points on the board. After some back and forth action between both teams, Adam Parker came in for the Penguins with a mid-range jumper and another made basket from beyond the arc to finish off his career night.

The Penguins will travel down to Belmont where they will begin conference play as they face Academy of Art on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. PST at Walter F. Gleason Gymnasium.
