SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Junior
Taylor Lim held on for a three-set victory in singles to cap an incredible comeback by Dominican women's tennis in a 4-3 victory Saturday afternoon over Stanislaus State at Castellucci Family Tennis Center.
The Warriors (0-1) claimed the first doubles victory of the day as Megan Hagerty and Tay Cazarin topped
Ofelia Lopez Camarena and
Haley Garcia 6-0 on the second court.
Michelle Li and
Taylor Lim answered with a 6-1 victory over Kate Bolton and Karrigan Cook in No. 3 doubles, but Ashley Isaac and Kayla Nguyen held on for a 6-3 victory in No. 1 doubles to give Stanislaus State the team point.
Bolton kept the momentum rolling for the Warriors as she claimed No. 5 singles 6-0, 6-3, but
Kamar Alajeely responded with a 6-4, 6-2 victory on court four to keep the Penguins (1-1) close. Li tied the match at 2-2 as she topped Stanislaus State's Grace Moore 7-5, 6-2 and Lopez Camarena gave Dominican the lead with a 7-6, 6-3 victory over Nguyen.
Isaac would not let the Warriors go down easily as she took No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-0 to tie the team score 3-3 and the match hung on the result of the No. 2 singles match between Lim and Hagerty. Lim fought off Hagerty for a 6-2 victory in the first set, while Hagerty returned the favor with the 6-2 win in the second set. All eyes turned to the court for the final points as Lim broke set to pull away and held on for the 6-3 victory to give Dominican its first win of the season.
The Penguins will return to the court Sunday as they host Academy of Art at Noon PST at Castellucci Family Tennis Center.
