SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Dominican women's tennis fell 7-0 to No. 30 Sonoma State in its final match of the season Sunday afternoon at Castellucci Family Tennis Center.
Jenna DeTurk and Carolyn Brooner got the Seawolves (12-6) off to a strong start with a 6-2 victory in doubles and Clarisa Colling and Carolina Alfonsin finished right behind them with a 6-2 victory of their own to secure the doubles point.
Nicole Bermudez and
Kaitlyn Nguyen put up a strong fight for the Penguins (4-15) in the final doubles match, but fell 6-4 to Jennifer Kingsley and Hannah Highsmith.
Colling took the first singles victory for SSU 6-3, 6-0 on the top court while Alfonsin held off a strong challenge from
Michelle Li in the first set for a 7-5, 6-0 victory. Brooner earned the match clincher for the Seawolves with a 6-3, 6-2 victory on court three.
Alex Wartenberg capped her Dominican career with one last strong showing taking the first set 6-3 over DeTurk, but fell 6-1 in the second set and 10-3 in the tiebreaker.
