SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Dominican women's tennis fell 7-0 Thursday afternoon to No. 39 UC San Diego in its first match against a ranked opponent this season at Castellucci Family Tennis Center.

Alex Wartenberg saw their doubles winning streak halted in their first match of the year at the top court in a 6-1 loss to Ashley Chao and Becky Chou. The Tritons (7-5) added 6-1 and 6-2 victories to sweep the doubles portion and take a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
UC San Diego continued to role with Shweta Kumar winning 6-0, 6-0 and Chou adding a 6-1, 6-0 victory to get them a point from sealing the match victory. Valeria Corral took No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-1 to give the Tritons the team victory.
Taylor Lim had the strongest match for the Penguins (3-9) giving Chao all she could handle at No. 1 singles as she played to an even 4-4 in the first set, but Chao one the final two games for the set victory. The second set was equally close with Chao once again coming away with the victory at 6-3.
Dominican will stay home to host Fresno Pacific on Saturday at 2 p.m. PDT.
