Moore led with back-to-back 3-pointers to cap an 8-0 run during the middle of the first quarter as the Pioneers took a 16-7 lead. Mondave knocked down a shot from the top of the arc to spur the Penguins over the final two minutes of play. Cedeno then finished the period in style for the Penguins with a layup, a steal and another layup in a six-second span to pull the Penguins within two heading to the second.

Sankey helped the Pioneers open up some breathing room early in the second with a 3-pointer to take a six-point lead. Junior Jordan Charlton answered with one of her own from the left corner and Paine sank a pair of jumpers to give Dominican the 30-29 lead with 5:19 left in the half. The teams traded leads and buckets for the final minutes and the half ended in a 41-41 tie.

The Penguins got off to a strong start in the second half as Mondave, Cedeno and Julia Razo all attacked the paint for layups to build a 47-41 lead within the first minute and a half. The Pioneers regrouped in a timeout as Sankey and Moore each hit a layup to cut back within two. Dominican held the lead until Zhane Duckett and Kayley Hsiung hit back-to-back 3-pointers to cap a 9-0 run and give CSUEB the 56-51 lead with 4:50 remaining. Dominican retook the lead once and tied the game once in the final minutes of the period, but two Penguin turnovers helped the Pioneers end the third on an 11-2 run to take a 70-61 lead into the final period.
