SAN RAFAEL, Calif.— Dominican men's soccer extended its winning streak to five games by defeating Holy Names University, 3-1 Saturday afternoon at Kennelly Field.
Senior forward
Luke Raley helped the Penguins (6-7-1, 4-3-0 PacWest) rally past the Hawks (4-8-2, 1-4-2 PacWest) with two goals, increasing his count to 11 on the year. Sophomore defender
Eddie Silverbush continued his hot streak, finding the back of the net to extend the Penguins' lead to 3 with his fifth goal in five games. Sophomore goalkeeper
Ruben Raygoza earned the win at goal for the Penguins, recording six saves and his fifth win of the season.
Niko Gonzalez recorded Holy Names' only goal of the day in the 89
th minute of action. Rafael Calderon started in goal for the Hawks and tallied just one save.
Three minutes into the match, Raley made the first mark on the game as Silverbush fled from the corner flag to the box and sent a cross to Raley for the chip in.
The Hawks returned downfield in the 11
th minute when Louis Bellido found an opening at the top of the box and sent a bullet to the top of the net, but Raygoza was there to make the save. Dominican retaliated in the 14
th minute when Raley beat his defender down field to move into position to receive a deflection off the goalkeeper and kick it back in for his second goal of the afternoon.
After trading attempts, Holy Names looked to cut their deficit with five minutes left in the half as Ramon Gutierrez found a seam in the box and sent a shot at the bottom right corner of the box, but Raygoza was there once more for the save to send the Penguins into the half leading, 2-0.
In the 60
th minute, the Hawks connected on another charge downfield. Josiah Romero fought for position and rushed the left corner of the box sending a chip shot over Raygoza to an empty net. Senior defender

David Frank defined the save by Albert as a crucial moment for the Penguins and the key moment of the game. "Those are the types of plays that big-time leaders make in big-time moments that can make or break the result."
Not long after the half, Dominican charged down field for yet another attack. This time it was Raley who led Silverbush to the right corner for the box as Silverbush fought to gain position. Silverbush sent a shot past Gonzalez to extend Dominican's lead to 3-0 in the 64
th minute.
With 39 seconds to go in regulation, Sebastian Quiroz connected with Niko Gonzalez to break the silence, but the Hawks ran out of time to complete the comeback.
After the game Coach Frank shared his excitement about the momentum that Dominican has gained in the last five matchups. "We're looking forward to seeing if we can build off this and get an even better performance Tuesday against another tough opponent."
