SAN RAFAEL, Calif.— Dominican men's soccer fell behind early and was unable to erase the deficit in a 1-4 loss to Point Loma Nazarene University Saturday afternoon at Kennelly Field.

PLNU goalkeeper, Connor McEwen collected 3 saves on the day and only allowed one goal in the 73
rd minute of play. Dominican (1-5-1, 0-1 PacWest) sent 16 shots toward the net, but only 4 were on target, while 10 of Point Loma's 12 attempts landed on target. Jorge Navarro and Teague Anderson each netted a goal for the Sea Lions (5-3-1, 1-0-1 PacWest), and David Achaerandio sent two unassisted goals to the back of the net.

Dominican goalkeeper
Ruben Raygoza recorded 6 saves on the day, but it wasn't enough to fend off the Sea Lions.
Colin Gunby recorded Dominican's lone goal for the day, his second of the season.

The Penguins created the first attempt of the afternoon in the 14
th minute when
Kieran Vrklan sent a shot to the right corner of the net that was blocked by McEwen, and tipped to Gunby for a shot, but the attempt missed wide.

Midway through the 16
th minute, Parker Scalzo made his way into the box and fired off a shot toward the right corner. Raygoza blocked the shot, but a second shot from Navarro found the back of the net before Raygoza could recover. Seconds after kickoff, the Sea Lions regained possession and pressured Dominican's box once more. Achaerandio crossed the ball to Anderson on the left-hand side of the box, who chipped it over Raygoza to give PLNU a 2-0 lead.

Point Loma continued to press Dominican's backfield, and returned in the 19
th minute with another attack. Anderson forced his way toward the box, bating
Christopher Barrios to commit a foul just outside the right corner of the box. Achaerandio took the free kick and buried it in the upper left corner of the net to extend the Sea Lion's lead to 3-0.

The Penguins began the second half on the offensive attack as
Greg Natt beat his defender to the left goal post and attempted to chip the ball over McEwen to an empty net, but the attempt landed left of the post and into the side netting.

Skipping ahead to the 73
rd minute, the Penguins continued to attack Point Loma's back line and forced a corner kick.
Ivan Galvan took the corner and sent a cross to Gunby, heading it into the net to break Dominican's silence. In the 78
th minute,
Roberto Garcia created another opportunity for the Penguins, playing a give-and-go to Galvan inside the box. Garcia whistled a shot in from the right side of the box, but McEwen was there to make the save.

With three minutes left to go in regulation, Achaerandio stole a deflected ball from the Penguins and sprinted down midfield, outrunning three defenders and lined a shot past Raygoza to seal the 4-1 win for the Sea Lions.

The Penguins will look to get back into the win column Wednesday as they travel to Fresno Pacific University to take on the Sunbirds at 7:30 p.m. PDT. Live video and stats will be available online.
