SAN RAFAEL, Calif. –
Wilson Briggs set Dominican men's soccer single game record with four goals as the Penguins (2-1-0) overwhelmed Pacific Union 8-0 Wednesday at Kennelly Field.
Briggs broke the Dominican Division II record set by Kolby Mitnick against William Jessup in 2012. Briggs added an assist to finish the match with another Dominican record of nine points in the match. The history did not end there the eight goals scored broke a team record for goals in a game passing the five Dominican scored against Cal Maritime in 2012.
Luke Raley,
Diego Vasquez,
Kieran Vrklan and
Greg Natt joined Briggs with goals, while
Edgard Morazan led the Penguins with two assists to tie six former players for the single game mark.
The scoring started early as Briggs took a ball into the left corner and sent a cross to a waiting Raley in the center of the box for a goal 29 seconds into the match. Briggs continued his offensive assault on the Pioneers (0-1-0) with the next four goals in the 13th, 15th, 19th and 23rd minutes
In the 42nd minute, Vrklan took a ball into the box from the left side and put a ball past the diving keeper to Vasquez who tapped it in for the 6-0 lead as the teams headed to the half. The Penguins did not allow a single shot by the Pioneers in the first half as they dominated possession.
The freshman took over in the second half. Vrklan connected on his first career goal as Morazan found him in the center of the box with a cross in the 49th minute. In the 81st minute, Morazan again took a ball into the right corner of the attacking third and sent a cross into the box to find Natt for his first goal in a Dominican uniform to cap off the scoring.
