OAKLAND, Calif. – Dominican women's volleyball fell 3-1 (25-21, 25-17, 14-25, 25-22) Thursday against Holy Names at Tobin Gymnasium.

Kate Even led the Penguins (3-7, 1-4 PacWest) with 14 kills on a .323 hitting percentage to go with two aces. Senior
Cat Thomason added 10 kills and four blocks for Dominican. Fanny Chow led the Hawks (3-9, 2-4 PacWest) with a double-double of 14 kills and 15 digs.
Holy Names hit .288 for the match after starting the match with two sets above a .300 hitting percentage. The Penguins finished with a .171 hitting percentage.
Dominican capitalized on several early errors by Holy Names to jump out to an early lead as Even made it 7-3 with a kill. Fanny Chow had back-to-back kills to spark a 6-1 run for the Hawks to help them take a 14-13 lead. The teams traded leads for the next several minutes until Chow helped seal the set for the Hawks with three kills and a block assist to end the set on a 5-1 run.
The second set started in a similar manner as several Holy Names errors combined helped Dominican build an 8-4 lead to open the set. The Hawks slowly made their way back into the set as Mariah Leal had a block assist and a kill to give the Hawks a 13-12 lead. Holy Names continued to pull away as they continued their hot hitting building an 8-point advantage on the way to a 25-17 victory.
The teams traded points to begin the third set until Even put down a kill and an ace to spark the Penguins on a 4-0 run to give them the 9-6 lead. Thomason combined with teammates for two blocks to power another small run to extend the Dominican lead to 13-8, and the Penguins began to slowly pull away. Dominican's continued to extend its lead on the way to a 25-14 victory.
Eleni Loizou powered a 7-1 run with three kills to help the Penguins open up a 17-11 lead in the fourth set after a tight start to the set. The Hawks continued to battle and Summer Williams led a 7-0 charge to give them the 20-19 lead. Keona Stopper then sealed the match with a pair of aces to give Holy Names the 25-22 set victory.
Dominican will return home Saturday to take on Notre Dame de Namur at 7 p.m. PDT at the Conlan Center. Live stats and video will be available online.
