Box Score SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Dominican men's basketball fell 77-57 Tuesday night to Concordia University Irvine at the Conlan Center.
 
Freshman Christian Futch, junior CJ Thomas and senior Jeremiah Gray led the Penguins (5-20, 4-14 PacWest) with 15 points apiece. JT Roach put in 17 points to lead the Eagles (18-9, 11-7 PacWest).
 
Concordia jumped out to a quick 13-4 advantage but baskets from Thomas and freshman Jordan Williams kept Dominican close at the under-16 media timeout. A few minutes later, Futch grabbed an offensive rebound and quickly put it back in, trimming the Penguins' deficit to 19-14.
 
After the Eagles got a pair of baskets to take a 9-point lead, senior Reverend Maduakor pushed the ball in transition and found Gray for a corner triple, making it 23-17. Concordia continued to shoot the ball well but Dominican refused to go away as Maduakor hit a fadeaway jumper in the paint, cutting the Eagles' lead to 27-23 and forcing the visitors to take a timeout.
 
Later, after Roach hit a 3-pointer late in the shot clock for Concordia, Futch snagged another offensive rebound and again put it back in to keep the Penguins close at 34-27. Brian Chambers hit a turnaround, left-handed floater to give the Eagles a 41-29 lead with just over a minute remaining in the half. Chambers then followed his own miss and put it back in and Roach hit a deep 3-pointer as time expired, helping Concordia to a 46-33 lead at the break.
 
Two quick buckets from Futch to start the second half cut the Eagles' lead to 46-37. Concordia responded with eight unanswered points, capped by a dunk from Cameron English as the Eagles held a 57-42 lead at the under-16 media timeout. A few minutes later, Geoff Gerlach put in a layup to stretch Concordia's lead to 61-44. The Penguins were unable to get much closer as the Eagles ran away with the win.
