SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Senior forward
Natalie Diaz earned her first Pacific West Conference Player of the Week honor after leading Dominican women's basketball to two wins in the opening week of PacWest play.
Diaz scored 78 points on the week to lead all players and increased her season average to 33.0 points, the top mark in Division II. She began the week with a 41 point game against Concordia University Irvine, the second highest mark in the programs current era, in 31 minutes of play. Diaz then followed that up with a 37 point performance against Point Loma Nazarene University on Saturday. She has now made 500 career field goals, becoming the 11th player in PacWest history to reach the milestone.
The Penguins (4-1, 2-0 PacWest) will head south to face Notre Dame de Namur in Belmont on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. PST as they look to continue the strong start to the conference season.
