SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Dominican women's volleyball fell 3-1 (25-14, 22-25, 25-22, 25-22) to Hawai'i Pacific on Saturday afternoon at the Conlan Center.
Freshman outside hitter
Brittania Chan came off the bench to lead the Penguins (6-13, 4-10 PacWest) with 12 kills on a .393 hitting percentage. Senior outside hitter
Kate Even added 11 kills and four blocks, while sophomore setter
Josie Walser contributed five kills, 32 assists and 15 digs.
Cameryn Collie led the Sharks (7-13, 6-8 PacWest) with 21 kills and 11 digs, while Perla Escobar chipped in 17 kills and 23 digs.
Collie led an early 5-1 charge with two kills to give HPU the 8-5 advantage. Escobar then sparked a 9-1 run to extend the lead to 10 and the Sharks were able to cruise to a 25-14 victory in the opening set.
The teams began the second set trading points and runs to a 16-16 tie, but Even had a kill and a block to ignite a 7-1 run that gave the Penguins the 23-18 lead. Dominican errors helped HPU close the gap to one, but Even responded with a kill and senior

Rebecca Smith for a block to even the match at a set apiece.
Even led an early charge in the third with a solo block and a kill to give Dominican the 4-2 advantage, but the Sharks responded with two of their own to tie the set back up. The set remained close until a 4-1 HPU run helped them build a 17-14 lead. Dominican put together a 3-0 run to tie the set briefly, but Nicole Ferris sparked a 4-0 run with a kill to create the separation needed to give the Sharks the 2-1 lead in the match.
Collie bookended a 6-1 run with a pair of kills to put HPU ahead 10-6 early in the fourth set and the lead would grow to as much as eight after a kill by Chandler Lippincott. Thomason and Chan each contributed two kills during a 6-1 run that cut the lead to 18-15 as the Penguins looked to close the gap quickly. Sophomore
Eleni Loizou then ended another 6-1 run with a solo block to tie the match at 22, but a kill from Escobar and a block by Ferris propelled HPU to the victory.
Dominican will return to the court Sunday to take on Chaminade at 7 p.m. PDT at the Conlan Center. Live stats and video will be available online.
