Box Score SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Dominican women's basketball defeated Dixie State 98-80 Thursday at the Conlan Center.
Freshman
Julia Razo led the Penguins (12-5, 6-3 PacWest) with a career-high 29 points. Junior
Natalie Diaz finished with 27 points and 10 rebounds for her tenth double-double of the season. Ali Franks led the Trailblazers (8-10, 4-7 PacWest) with 18 points.
After the Penguins fell behind 10-6 early on, Razo hit a 3-pointer and junior
Alanna Scott put in a layup to give Dominican their first lead of the night at 11-10. Sophomore
Marisa Mondave later capped the 11-0 run with a layup to put the Penguins ahead 17-10.
Dominican was able to open their lead up in the second quarter, as junior
Anjelica Collins finished a layup to make it 40-26. A triple from Scott with a few minutes remaining before halftime extended the Penguins' advantage to 48-30. Dominican held onto a 52-36 lead at the break.
The Penguins lead grew larger in the third quarter with sophomore
Vanessa Cruz putting Dominican ahead 56-36 with a layup a couple of minutes into the period. A minute later, Collins buried a 3-pointer to run the lead up to 22. The lead later swelled to 27 on a triple from Razo, putting the Penguins ahead 70-43.
Dixie State was unable to significantly cut into their deficit in the fourth quarter as Dominican ran away with the win.
The Penguins shot 47.5 percent from the field, including 12-28 from 3-point territory. Dominican forced the Trailblazers into 23 turnovers, leading to 22 points.
