Box Score NAMPA, Idaho -- Dominican women's volleyball fell Friday night to Cal State Los Angeles 3-1 (25-22, 25-19, 24-26, 25-20) in the third match of the D2 West Region Volleyball Showcase at Johnson Sport Center.

Kate Even continued her hot start for the Penguins (1-6) with a double-double of 14 kills and 10 digs along with Freshman
Josie Walser, who had a double double of her own with 22 assists and 11 digs. Freshman
Hana Wyles was a key contributor on defense with her 22 digs.

Karla Santos led CSU Los Angeles with 21 kills and 26 digs. Alejandra Negron contributed with 15 kills of her own along with 18 digs.

Santos played a large role in the first set, leading the Golden Eagles to an early 10-8 lead. Dominican battled back with Even and Steinwand leading the charge to keep the set close and take a brief 16-15 lead. The effort came up short, however, and CSULA took advantage of some Penguin errors during a 4-0 run to take the lead on its way to a 25-22 victory in the first set.

The Golden Eagles jumped out ahead early in set two, but the Penguins again made a run to keep things close. Their efforts were thwarted when CSULA got a couple key kills from Santos and Negron to build a five-point advantage. Dominican bounced back with some strong blocking from
Cat Thomason to tie the set again at 18-18, but another four-point swing late by the Golden Eagles helped them to 25-19 set victory.

Hana Wyles came up with a couple key digs down the stretch to grab the 6-2 advantage. The Penguins led by as much as eight after a triple block by Thomason, Even and Walser, but errors late allowed the Golden Eagles back into the set. With CSULA at match point, Dominican finally found some late momentum to reel off a 3-0 run, punctuated by kills from Thomason and Walser to claim the 26-24 victory.

Steinwand and Even continued the momentum into the fourth set to help the Penguins build a 5-1 lead early. However, the Golden Eagles used a 5-1 run to tie the set and a three-point run to take the 10-8 lead. Even had a kill and an ace to spark a 4-0 swing and give Dominican back the lead at 15-14, but CSULA reeled off three straight to retake the lead for good. Â
