Box Score SAN DIEGO -- Dominican men's soccer played shorthanded for 50 minutes in a physical game, but were unable to find a breakthrough goal in a 1-0 loss to Point Loma at PLNU Soccer Field.

The Penguins (3-4, 0-3 PacWest) were outshot by the Sea Lions (6-2, 3-0 PacWest) 18-6, with 6-2 shots on goal. All five shots on goal for Point Loma came in the second half of the match with the Penguins down two men. Both Dominican shots came from juniors
Colin Gunby and
Wilson Briggs. Junior goalie
Christian Lathrop had five saves in the match.

Tanner Herrero and
Matt Case had early chances for the Penguins, as Herrero's shot in the 16th minute was blocked and Case's shot in the 22nd minute hit the post. Gunby then gave the Penguins the first shot on goal for the game with a header in the 33rd minute, but was unable to get it past the keeper. Dominican's defense didn't allow much space to Point Loma and kept it from a shot on goal in the first half.

PLNU's Eduardo Gallardo shot from 18 yards out in the 72nd minute and it was deflected into the netting for the only goal of the game. Three minutes later, Briggs attempted to tie the game in with the only shot on goal for the shorthanded Penguins in the second half, but Wiktor Lasota was there for the save.

The Penguins found themselves in deep foul trouble in the game with six yellow cards and two red cards. However, they managed to hold off Point Loma's offense for most of the game, as they played with only nine beginning in the 57th minute.

The Penguins will play their next match Saturday as they travel to La Mirada, California, to face PacWest newcomer Biola University at 4 p.m. PDT. Live stats and video will be available online.
