Box Score HAYWARD, Calif. -- Dominican women's volleyball dropped their second game of the day Friday at the Route 92 showdown against Cal State East Bay 3-0 (22-25, 18-25, 24-26).

The Penguins (0-3) were led by a breakout performance from freshman
Catherine Johnson, who recorded a double-double of 11 kills and 11 digs, along with 12 points in the match. Senior
Aimee Steinwand recorded 13 points, and 12 kills while freshman
Hana Wyles had 11 digs for Dominican.

Dominican faced strong showing from the Pioneer's (2-1) Deja Thompson and Kiki Leuteneker. Thompson had nine kills,and three services aces, while Leuteneker led her team with 13 kills.

The Penguins had an early lead in the first set, going on a three-point run to start the match and leading 6-5 until the Pioneers fought back. Dominican reclaimed the lead 12-11, but a service error by Johnson would allow CSUEB to take control of the set thanks to Leuteneker's six kills in the opening set.

Dominican grabbed another early lead in the second set with a 3-0 run, but the Pioneers responded with a late six-point run at 18-20 to turn the tide and take the set.

The Penguins posted their biggest threat in the third set. The set remained tight and a kill by Steinwand put Dominican ahead 10-9. CSUEB continued to limit the Penguins runs until to aces from
Josie Walser sparked a late 7-0 run extend the match to extra points. The Pioneers had one response left and reeled off three-straight points to take the set 26-24.

Dominican will close out the Route 92 showdown with a match Saturday against Sonoma State at 2 p.m. PST in Rohnert Park, California.
