Penguins start trip with win at Monterey Bay

Box Score SEASIDE, Calif. - Dominican women's basketball defeated Cal State Monterey Bay 77-64 Wednesday afternoon at the Otter Sports Complex.
 
Senior Sandra Ikeora and junior Natalie Diaz led the Penguins' (3-1) offense with a double-double each. Ikeora put in 28 points and had 18 rebounds for the penguins, while Diaz finished with 26 points and 14 rebounds. Freshman Julia Razo added 11 points, going a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line. Junior Anjelica Collins contirbuted with seven points, five rebounds and four steals. Junior Jordan Price led the Otters (2-4) with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
 
Ikeora scored her seventh point for the night with a midrange jumpshot early in the second quarter, starting the Penguins on a 19-5 run that would secure their lead for the remainder of the night. Along with the jumper, Ikeora tallied 11 points on the run, with five free throws and 2 layups. Diaz also made an impact in the second quarter, with three free throws and a layup.
 
Dominican continued to dominate in the third, beginning with a layup by Ikeora, followed soon after by Razo with a three-pointer. Both Diaz and Ikeora scored another 8 points in the quarter.
 
The Penguins continue on their road trip this holiday weekend in the UCSD Thanksgiving Classic, beginning Friday at 5 p.m. at the Rimac Arena in San Diego. Live stats will be available online.
