SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California men's basketball team fell in the final two minutes to Academy of Art in a 79-71 on Saturday.
The two teams were deadlocked 28-28 at halftime and into the final three minutes.
Reverend Maduakor's breakaway slam dunk gave the Penguins (4-10/3-5 PacWest) a 68-67 lead but the Urban Knights (3-7/3-2 PacWest) forced four turnovers down the stretch and went on a 12-3 run over the final 2:44. It was the Penguins' first-ever loss on their home floor to the Urban Knights.
Jeremiah Gray led the Penguins with 19 points and eight rebounds.
Henry Uwadiae added 12 points off of the bench and Maduakor finished with 11 points.
Victor Nwaba led all players with 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting for the Urban Knights. Herman Pratt added 16 points, Chris Salas had 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds, and Uchenna Okeneme had 10 points.
Dominican heads to Dixie State on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in Utah, then returns home versus Hawai'i Pacific on Saturday, Jan. 14 for Gold Rush Night. The first 100 fans to attend that game will receive a Dominican Basketball t-shirt courtesy of Gold Rush Jewelers.
