AZUSA, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's volleyball team was swept (25-13, 25-16, 25-15) by Azusa Pacific on Friday in the team's second to last match of the season.
The sweep was the first suffered by the Penguins since Sept. 10. The Cougars (15-13/11-8 PacWest) set the tone early with a 4-0 lead. Dominican (16-11/12-7 PacWest) quickly trailed 12-6. The Penguins pulled within four but a 5-0 Cougars run gave them the early lead. The Penguins led 9-8 in set two but another 4-0 Cougars run found the Penguins behind 12-9. Dominican was outscored 13-7 after that and trailed 2-0 in the match. The Penguins fell behind 5-0 in set three and never recovered.
Madeline Powelson recorded a team-high eight kills and
Susanna Pilkerton added seven kills in the loss. Libero
Amanda Lee had a team-high 13 digs and Powelson added 10.
Julianne Miller and Madison Ogas led the Cougars with 11 kills each. Bailey Henington had a match-high 20 digs. Ogas had a double-double with 10 digs.
