IRVINE, Calif. — Dominican University of California softball players
Catlyn Cavender and
Katelyn Harden were named to the 2015 All-PacWest Team. Cavender was named to the Second Team at second base while Harden was named to the Third Team at utility.
This is Cavender's second appearance on the PacWest Second Team in as many years, with last year earning a spot as a utility player. The sophomore went 5-for-6 on the final day of the season, including 4-for-4 in game two, to become the new program's new single-season batting average leader with a .375 clip. Cavender also crushed the marks for highest slugging percentage and highest on base percentage, with .711 and .448 respectively. Her 10 home runs this season were also the most by a Dominican player in a single season in the Division II era and put her in a three-way tie for second most in the PacWest. The Sacramento, California native led the Penguins in nearly every offensive category, also tallying 48 hits and 91 total bases.
After an injury in the rotation, Harden became the Penguins' most reliable pitcher and recorded nine wins in 21 starts, 15 of which were complete-game performances. She had three shutouts and posted a team-best 3.34 ERA. Harden, who split her time in the circle and at first base, was second on the team to only Cavender with a .316 batting average, 42 hits, 30 RBI, and 56 total bases. The Hughson, California native led the team with nine doubles. Harden also recorded one home run and swiped one base. She was named PacWest Pitcher of the Week Feb. 16-22. She ends her sophomore campaign as the program's lowest career ERA at 3.77 and third in strikeouts (92) in the Division II era.
