Penalty kick proves costly on Senior Day

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California men's soccer team was handed a tough 1-0 loss on Senior Day to Azusa Pacific.

The visiting Cougars (6-9-2/6-6-1 PacWest) scored on a penalty kick in the 24th minute after a Dominican (2-15-1/2-10-1 PacWest) foul in the box. The match was otherwise even. The Cougars attempted 11 shots, five on goal, while Dominican took 10 shots, seven of which were on goal. All three of freshman Jordan Zamora's shots were on goal. Junior Roberto Macias and senior Cory Vanderpool each took two shots with one on goal.

Before the match, the Penguins honored their four seniors: Josh Godoy, Danny Manfred, Patrick Rabbitt, and Vanderpool.

Despite the team's struggles, Head Coach Zach Kingsley's Penguins finished a spot higher in the standings. Macias led the Penguins with six goals. Five other Penguins added goals throughout the season.
